Configuring CUPS and Network Printers with
KDEPrint
Setting up remote network printers is not substantially different from the local setup
process, but because openSUSE Linux 10.3 gives you a choice, let??™s show you how to set
this up in the KDEPrint wizard.
To open KDEPrint, open the KDE Control Panel (also known as Configure
Desktop/Personal Settings) and go to Peripherals, then Printers. Figure 7.7 shows you the
existing printers it has autodetected.
Click Administrator Mode at the bottom to take control of your printers. Click and hold
down Add to see a pair of choices: Choose Add Printer/Class. The KDEPrint Wizard
appears. You have several choices of network printer interfaces. Both Network Printer and
Network Printer w/IPP options allow you to scan your network for printers to connect to.
The Remote CUPS Server and Remote LPD Queue (which you should only use if the printer
you are trying to use does not support CUPS) require you to enter an IP address manually.
