"openSUSE Linux Unleashed"

Try experimenting with DVD-RW media first;
DVD-R discs are not quite as cheap as CD-R disks, thus making the penalty for making
mistakes somewhat higher.
Watching Video
Broadband Internet connections, cell phones, and cameras that take moving images as
well as stills: These are the things driving the increasing ubiquity of digital video as an
essential piece of a modern desktop system. openSUSE Linux users will not be disappointed
when visiting YouTube. You have several choices for viewing video content.
Before beginning your search for quality video clips, be sure to follow the steps listed in
the Sound Formats section of this chapter to get all the tools necessary to view proprietary
video formats.
All the players listed below use one of two underlying frameworks for playing various
multimedia files: xine or GStreamer. GStreamer is, as you might guess, based on
GNOME/GTK+, while xine is a more generic, X-based engine. Both have extensive collections
of plugins that can do assorted things (GStreamer has a plugin that functions as a
telestrator, so you can draw on your playing movie, just like a TV sports analyst), and you
might choose a multimedia engine based on a plugin you want to use.
