Editing Images
Let us begin with a truism: It is hard to create a great graphical interface without great
graphics. While it may not be true that the Linux desktop would not exist without The
GIMP (although it is the case with ONE Linux desktop), the quality of this image editor
marked the first great step toward widespread acceptance of desktop PCs running Linux.
Editing digital images is an essential task now that the photographic darkroom is becoming
a relic of the last century, and even folks who take vacation pictures deserve highquality
tools to remove the finger from the edge of the image.
But photographs aren??™t the only images that can be created and modified in Linux.
