The current
version even plays a few games, including World of Warcraft. Early versions of what is
now the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop included Crossover Office.
Installing Windows Applications with Crossover
Running Windows programs under Crossover takes some resource overhead, so
Codeweavers recommends downloading the free 30-day trial before buying directly.
Download the install shell script, and run it (as a user) to get things started.
Once you??™ve completed the initial install, you can install your applications one at a time.
From the KDE menu, go to Applications, then Crossover, then Install Windows
Applications. You??™ll see the list of supported applications. Most of these require a CDROM
to install, but some are free applications downloadable over the Internet, like
Internet Explorer 6. Select the application you want to install and click Next.
Crossover puts applications in (Wine) ???bottles,??? representing different Windows versions.
It??™s a very good idea to stick with the developers??™ recommended choice of bottle. Older
applications generally go into the Win98 bottle, while Microsoft Office 2003 goes into the
Win2000 bottle.
