In this
example, you can define it as ???WinXPHome??? or ???WinXPPro???.
. As with Win4Lin, you must set the upper limit of the Player??™s memory use in the
memsize line. For a Windows XP installation, you should enter at least 128 here
(this is set in megabyte units), and probably much more. This will depend on how
much physical memory you have, and the applications you want to run in the
virtual machine.
. We??™re installing Windows from its CD-ROM. To do this, we have to make some
changes in the ide1:0 section of the file. This section should look like this:
ide1:0.present = ???TRUE???
ide1:0.deviceType = ???cdrom-raw???
ide1:0.autodetect = ???TRUE???
ide1:0.startConnected = ???TRUE???
ide1:0.fileName = ???auto-detect???
. The ide0:0.fileName line should point to the VMware Disk Image we made earlier:
ide0:0.fileName = ???hd.vmdk???
Save this edited configuration file as windows.vmx to the Guest directory, and you??™re
ready to run the VMware Player.
