In this section, we will deal with the configuration
screens available in the YaST MTA Configuration Wizard. Novice users should stick to
the defaults for these settings, but if you want to fine-tune your mail operations, read on.
General Settings
The first window to greet you in the wizard is the General Settings window. Here you
must select the type of Internet connection your system has. If your system is not
connected to a network, Postfix will be configured to just pass messages to local users
(because you can??™t connect to a remote MTA).
If you have a dial-up Internet connection, indicate that by selecting the Dial-up radio
button. A dial-up connection requires the server to queue outbound mail messages until
the connection is established. You must manually run the sendmail -q command when
you are ready to send and receive mail with the remote MTA.
NOTE
Even though openSUSE uses Postfix, the actual MTA executable program is called
sendmail. This is a remnant from the old Unix days when the sendmail MTA was the
only game in town. Many system script writers hard-coded the sendmail program in
their scripts.
