"openSUSE Linux Unleashed"

Getting News from RSS WebFeeds 335

FIGURE 16.1 Opera displays webfeeds in its built-in mail reader.
Some websites have also created Opera Widgets that display alongside Opera when it is open.
See http://widgets.opera.com/newsfeeds/ for a current list. See the Opera section of Chapter
13, ???Using the Internet: Browsing the Web and Writing Email,??? for more on Opera Widgets.
Standalone Aggregators
As always, each Linux desktop environment has an aggregator designed for it, though
they all work in both environments. Akregator is the default KDE aggregator, and it can
be integrated with the Kontact personal information manager. Liferea (the Linux Feed
Reader) and Blam! are written for GNOME. RSSOwl is an aggregator written in Java that
looks pretty good too.
Akregator
Akregator can function alone or as part of the Kontact personal information management
suite for KDE. If you decide to include it in Kontact (it is optional, and not loaded by
default), it will open only as the Feeds module in Kontact.
When you first run Akregator in openSUSE Linux, it includes a few sample feeds on Novell,
SUSE Linux, and KDE.
