GNOME??™s tool is called just beagle-search, and
KDE??™s is called Kerry. They offer a similar interface, though as is so often true, Kerry
(Figure 18.15) offers a more detailed, busy screen compared to the clean GNOME screen
(Figure 18.16).
FIGURE 18.15 Kerry offers an easy way to sort search results.
Beagle is about finding information, not necessarily files. You can search just for files, but
Beagle??™s power is searching through your Web cache, email, and documents to find what
you??™re really looking for. If you know you read about a study where wine from purple
grapes cured cancer, use Beagle to find out if you saved the reference somewhere on your
system.
Both Beagle search tools are located in the System, File System area of the Applications
menu. Click Search (with the magnifying glass icon) to get the GNOME Beagle-Search.
Kerry also helpfully provides a taskbar icon, with a red bandanna wrapped around the
Beagle??™s neck.

While Beagle is a powerful search, it helps to have some experience and savvy with web
searches.
