FIGURE 22.3 Configuring GRUB in YaST.
The Boot Loader Settings have become much more automated in openSUSE. You can still
edit your configuration files manually if you have the desire, but the options you have to
let YaST handle the task are greater. To see these options, click Other to see a drop-down
menu with your configuration options (Figure 22.3). If you have trouble booting with
GRUB, this is the place to come. The options include the following:
. Edit Configuration Files??”Manually edit the /boot/grub/device.map (identifies
physical drives), /boot/grub/menu.lst, and /etc/grub.conf (specifies how grub
loads) files. For experts only.
. Propose New Configuration??”If you??™re having trouble, this is probably the first
option to select. YaST takes another look at your system, and suggests modifying
menu.lst.
. Start from Scratch??”Delete everything in the Section Management window before
applying another option. All configuration files are backed up, so this isn??™t a permanent
deletion.
. Reread Configuration from Disk??”Pull up the current configuration, either live or
backup.
