Be careful when sharing folders on a public network, as you do not
want to provide easy access to your important data.
There are two important features that you must configure on the Identity configuration
tab. Under the Advanced Settings dropdown box, there are two features:
. Expert Global Settings
. User Authentication Settings
The Expert Global Settings feature allows you to set configuration parameters for the
Samba server. One important parameter that is left out of the default configuration is the
ENCRYPT PASSWORDS parameter.
This parameter allows users on Microsoft Windows workstations and servers to connect to
shares on the openSUSE system. Click the Add button, and select the ENCRYPT PASSWORDS
option from the list of available parameters to use. You must then check the checkbox
next to the parameter to ensure it is set.
The User Authentication Settings allows you to configure how the Samba server tracks
user accounts and passwords. By default, it is set to use a password file, similar to how
system accounts are handled. Unfortunately, the password file location is not defined in
the configuration.
