"openSUSE Linux Unleashed"

Obviously, you do not need to map Windows accounts to openSUSE accounts if they are
the same.
The next step is to assign a password to the Samba account. The smbpasswd program is
used to assign passwords to Samba accounts. The first time a Samba account is created,
you must use the ??“a option:
testing:/home/rich # smbpasswd ??“a rich
NEW PASSWORD:
RETYPE PASSWORD:
testing:/home/rich #
Once the account is created, you can log in from any Windows workstation or server
using the user account/password combination. If you are already logged into the
Windows workstation or server using the account and same password, you won??™t even be
asked to enter it when you map to a Samba resource!
Starting the Samba Server
If you selected to start Samba automatically, the server services (smbd and nmbd) are started,
and they will start every time you reboot the openSUSE system. If you selected to start Samba
manually, you must manually enter two commands at the command line for it to start:
rich@testing:~> su
password:
testing:/home/rich # rcsmb start
testing:/home/rich # rcnmb start

Note that you must be root user to start the Samba server services.
