"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

Yes, you can run certain kinds of web
applications, but, no, you can??™t install SQL Server. Discover more about what you can expect by
reading this book.
Goals for Writing This Book
There are many reasons you should read this book. One of the most important reasons I had for
writing it is that Server Core represents a major change in direction for Microsoft. Here??™s a company
that produces the most bloated software that ever existed and they??™ve pared down their server to a
diminutive size. Instead of a clunky bull raging in the china shop, you now have a lithe and adaptable
server. As an added bonus, Server Core will actually save you money by using considerably
less power to perform the same tasks you can perform using Windows Server 2008 Full version.
That??™s right, I wanted to see whether Server Core uses less power to perform a certain level of work
and it does. I wanted to explore power consumption, reliability, security, speed, and all of the other
things that Server Core brings to the table.
Server Core, unfortunately, doesn??™t come with as many instructions as you might like. My first
server configuration required nearly a week because I wasn??™t used to working entirely at the command
line.
