John Paul Mueller

"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

The beginning of the book is quite basic because
it has to be in order to get you up and running quickly. However, by the time you reach the end
of the book, you??™ll be working on considerably more advanced topics. Everything you need to set
up a Server Core environment appears in this book, including the information needed to configure
IIS 7 under Server Core.
I??™m assuming that you already know how to use Windows quite well and that you??™ve performed
administration tasks in the past. In some respects, everyone is starting over with Server Core, but
knowledgeable administrators have gained some skills that I simply don??™t have space to discuss in
this book. The complete novice won??™t be able to keep up with the pace of this book.

What You Need to Use this Book
You??™ll very likely want to set up a test server when working through the examples in this book. A production
server simply isn??™t the right environment in which to learn the vagaries of Server Core. I used
the Enterprise Edition of Server Core for the book. If you have some other edition, you may find that
you system doesn??™t have some of the features I discuss.
