"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

When the buffer is too small, the utility returns a value that tells you the minimum buffer size.
The SC utility has three special commands that affect the services as a whole, so they don??™t
require a service name. The following list describes the three commands.
boot {ok | bad} Determines whether the system saves the last boot information into the
last-known-good boot configuration.
Lock Locks the SCManager database. The command line displays a prompt that shows that the
system has locked the database. The database remains locked until you press u to remove the lock.
QueryLock Returns the locked status of the SCManager database.
Shutting Down the System with the ShutDown Command
The ShutDown command lets you shut down a system in a controlled manner. In addition, the utility
helps you document the reason for the shutdown and can even provide the user with a specific
level of control over the shutdown process. You can even shut down other machines on the network,
such as after the completion of an application installation. This utility uses the following syntax:
shutdown [/i | /l | /s | /r | /g | /a] [/f] [/m \\computername] [/t xx]
[/c ???comment???] [/d [u][p:]xx:yy]
shutdown [/i | /l | /s | /r | /g | /a | /p | /h | /e] [/f] [/m
\\ComputerName] [/t XXX] [/d [p:] XX:YY/c???Comment???]
The first version is for Windows XP users, while the second is for Windows 2003 users.
