You may use any value between 0 and 255. The yy argument is the minor reason
code. You may use any value between 0 and 65,535. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn??™t document
reason codes for this utility. However, your reason codes should match those of System
Shutdown Reason Codes Web page at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/
aa376885.aspx. If you want to use some other reason for shutting down a system, you must
register the reason in the registry so the ShutDown utility can provide the correct text within the
registry entry.
/p Turns off a local computer (you can??™t use this command line switch with a remote system)
without a timeout period of user warning. You can only use this command line switch with the
/d command line switch. If your computer doesn??™t support power off functionality, the system
will shut down, but the computer will remain running.
/h Places the computer in the hibernation state when you have hibernation enabled. You can
only use this command line switch with the /f switch. Since hibernation isn??™t the same as shutting
down the computer, the utility doesn??™t allow you to provide a reason code using the /d
command line switch or a comment using the /c command line switch.
