You??™ll find a good overview of both WBEM and WMI on the
Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/pnppwr/wmi/WMI-intro.mspx.
If you must maintain older systems and want to use the WMI functionality described in this chapter,
make sure you download the update at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details
.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=AFE41F46-E213-4CBF-9C5B-FBF236E0E875.
TIP One of the newer graphical utilities that Microsoft has introduced to make working with
WMI easier is the Windows Management Instrumentation Tester. Microsoft also calls this utility
Web-Based Enterprise Management Test in some literature. (Realizing the confusion they
were causing, some Microsoft documentation actually uses both terms now.) You can get an
overview of this utility, along with usage instructions, at http://technet2.microsoft.com/

Administering Managed Object Format Files with the MOFComp Utility
The Managed Object Format (MOF) Compiler (MOFComp) utility parses files that contain WMI
scripting information and adds the result to the WMI repository where you can access the classes.
