"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

After you perform this task, consider adding the applications you need and configuring
them. Make special note of any applications that present problematic installation. If you

additional security for applications, files, and folders. Use the WMIC command to examine your
server and perform any additional required installation. Begin working with the commands and
utilities you??™ll use to maintain your server. Finally, look through the list of scripts in this chapter
and begin using them to help you maintain your server.
The configuration information in this chapter is helpful, but Microsoft has removed so many
GUI utilities that you??™ll find you need to modify the registry directory to accomplish some tasks.
For example, when you want to modify the server environment or change the color of the GUI elements
that still exist, you must perform the task in the registry. Chapter 4 tells you about the essential
registry hacks you need to use to configure your server completely. The hacks in Chapter 4 are for
general use, the book doesn??™t discuss specific applications because it??™s impossible to discuss them
all (or even a small subset that will satisfy anyone).
