"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

In short, it contains many settings
that are common to both Server Core and other versions of Windows. The purpose of this
chapter is to acquaint you with some of the registry settings that you??™ve probably always set using
the GUI and may not even know exist in the registry. In other words, this chapter covers some
ground that you may not have even considered in the past.
NOTE
There are many sources of information for the registry online and you??™ll probably want to
have a book or two on the topic as well.
This chapter looks at the registry in two ways. First, you??™ll discover the various utilities that
Microsoft provides for altering the registry. Not only will you see the familiar RegEdit utility (and
its relatively unknown command line component), you??™ll discover the new SCRegEdit utility provided
with Server Core. Of course, you??™ll want to know about scripting with the RegIni utility as
well. Second, you??™ll discover some settings that you commonly change using the GUI, but must
make by altering the registry directly in Server Core. Some of these settings may look familiar, but
the purpose is to ensure that you know where to change a common setting when you need to.
