"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

These tutorials and online references will
greatly enhance your ability to begin working with scripts immediately. Of course, you??™ll want to
go slowly when scripting anything that could cause damage to your system. The best general rule
is to try one thing at a time, perfect your knowledge, and go on to the next item you want to learn.
Chapter 7 takes the next logical step when it comes to working with batch files and scripts. This
chapter contains information about a number of third-party tools you can use to make your programming
experience significantly easier. You??™ll also discover techniques for protecting your code
investment. If you plan to work with Server Core a lot, you??™ll want these tools to ensure you can get
the work you need done quickly.
Chapter 7
Editing and Compiling Batch Files
and Scripts
Any full automation effort at the command line will likely require batch files and scripts. You can
use any technique that you want to write the batch file or script. For example, you can use the
simple command
Copy CON: C:MyBatch.BAT
and press Enter to start an editing session right there
at the command prompt. The ???Modifying Data Files with the Edit Utility??? section of Chapter 5
demonstrates how you can use the Edit utility to perform batch and script file editing as well.
