One of the problems with looking for new utilities is the need to focus on what you need, rather
than what looks interesting. The interesting features might make you aware of other possibilities,
but more often than not, they only serve to distract you from the task at hand (not that this is always
bad, even administrators need play time). The best way to begin looking for a new utility is to
define the goal of that utility before you do anything else. Write down the tasks the utility must
perform and then search for the utility that performs those tasks. Of course, sometimes you??™ll find
several utilities that perform the required tasks and you??™ll need to test them out. The important
thing is to find an editor and compiler that do the kinds of things that you need to perform at the
command line.
