"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

At this point in the book, you know how to perform a basic setup and automate tasks using both
batch files and scripts. In addition, you now have a host of tools at your disposal for editing and
compiling your batch files and scripts as needed. You may think you have it all, but you don??™t. The
problem is that you still have to run those batch files and scripts manually??”you can tell the computer
to run them for you automatically if you want. Chapter 8 discusses the next step in your
management of Server Core??”getting Server Core to perform some tasks automatically for you.
All you need to do is tell Server Core when and how to run the task. The content in Chapter 8 takes
you to that next step where the computer becomes an assistant??”one that runs tasks automatically
and without question so you can get on to those tasks that you can??™t address using automation.
Chapter 8
Performing Task Automation
Using batch files or scripts represents one level of automation. You can issue a single command and
expect a number of things to take place. In addition, you don??™t have to remember all of those arcane
command line switches. However, you still have to be present at your desk to execute the command.
