"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

Someone once complained that the automation they??™d set up didn??™t work. After going through all of the
usual problems, I thought to ask about the computer clock. The user checked the clock and found it was
set incorrectly; problem solved. However, small errors are often the cause of problems with automation.
Creating and using a checklist can mean the difference between sleeping well at night knowing
your computer is working hard for you and coming in the next morning to a nasty surprise.
222 CHAPTER 8 PERFORMING TASK AUTOMATION
Managing Windows in a New Way
This chapter has shown that you have to use Task Scheduler to automate the applications, batch
files, and scripts you use from the command line further. Instead of being present to execute these
entities, you can ask the system to do it for you. The one thing you can depend on is that the system
will execute the task when you ask, using the input data you requested, unless it??™s unable to do so.
Of course, this means that you have to make certain that the Task Scheduler entry is correct or you
might get some unanticipated results. This chapter helps you build these skills:
? Manage the task scheduler, applications, and associated service
? Provide automation fault tolerance
It??™s time for you test this new form of automation.
