The best route to pursue is to experiment
with a number of simple entries to see how Task Scheduler works. Try something simple and nondestructive,
such as the Dir command. As you gain proficiency with Task Scheduler, move up to
other kinds of commands??”those that actually do some work you need to perform offline. When
you know beyond any doubt that the entry works as anticipated, you can move on to executing the
commands when you aren??™t sitting at your machine.
Chapter 9 begins a new section that describes how to work with hardware within Server Core.
You won??™t have the Control Panel applets you used in the past to manage hardware; everything
must occur at the command line or through remotely connected consoles (when available??”they
often aren??™t). In Chapter 9, you??™ll discover how to work with the hard drives on your system in a
new way. The command line utilities provided by Server Core help you perform a vast array of
hard drive tasks and even manage tasks in remote locations using new technologies such as the
Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI).
