Volume
The Volume mode helps you work with volumes directly. This mode uses the following syntax:
FSUtil Volume [dismount Drive] [diskfree Drive]
The following list describes each of the command line arguments.
Drive Specifies the drive to query or dismount.
dismount Removes a drive from service. Dismounting a volume makes it unavailable for any
activity.
250 CHAPTER 9 MANAGING THE HARD DRIVE
diskfree Displays the amount of free space on the drive. The output includes the number of
free bytes, the total number of bytes on the drive, and the available number of free bytes (after
any allocations).
Working with iSCSI Using the iSCSICli Utility
The Internet Small Computer System Interface Client (iSCSICli) utility helps you gain access to and
manage virtual hard drives located on Internet sites. The utility makes it appear that the drive is
local when it actually appears online. The advantage of this technology is that you can access the
drive from anywhere. In addition, the driver provider performs tasks such as ensuring you have a
good backup of your data. Of course, this technology also has drawbacks such as performance penalties.
You can??™t expect to access an iSCSI drive at the same performance levels as a local drive.
