Use this utility by typing
Hostname
at the command prompt and
pressing Enter. The utility still lets you query the current host when working with batch files or
scripts.
Managing the Internet Protocol with the IPConfig Utility
The IPConfig utility displays information about the configuration of the IP stack (software) on the
local machine. In many cases, all you need is the basic address information, so you can type
IPConfig
and press Enter. You??™ll see the addresses for your network adapters as shown in
Figure 11.1.

However, if you??™re diagnosing errors on your network, you??™ll need more information. In this
case, you??™ll type
IPConfig /all
and press Enter to obtain all of the information you can as shown
in Figure 11.2. Notice that in this case, the output includes all of the setting information, in addition
to the basic addresses. By knowing the configuration information, you can learn more about errors
on your network.
