You can also use IPConfig to renew the IP address for a particular adapter, which includes both
the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) settings. This
utility uses the following syntax:
ipconfig [/? | /all | /renew [adapter] | /release [adapter]
| /flushdns | /displaydns | /registerdns | /showclassid adapter
| /setclassid adapter [classid] | /renew6 [adapter] | /release6
[adapter]]
The following list describes each of the command line arguments.
adapter
Specifies the name of the connection. The connection name is the one that appears in
the Network Connections window (accessed by right-clicking My Network Places and choosing
Properties from the context menu). A common connection name for a single adapter machine is
???Local Area Connection.??? Enclose the connection name in quotes.
/all
Displays complete configuration information for all of the adapters. The information
includes all of the Windows IP configuration information, plus the Ethernet information. For
example, you can use the output to discover both the physical and IP addresses of the connection.
In addition, you can see the adapter??™s description (human-readable name) and both DNS
and DHCP information.
