Tracking Servers with the NSLookup Utility
The NSLookup utility provides information about the DNS setup on your network. You can use
this utility to perform tasks such as diagnosing DNS errors. The NSLookup utility has two modes.
The interactive mode provides access a number of subcommands that you can??™t access from the
command prompt. For example, you can??™t access the exit subcommand at the command prompt
because you have already exited the interactive mode by being at the command prompt. You can
access the QueryType and Set subcommands. This utility uses the following syntax:
nslookup [-Query=QueryType] [-SetOption=Value]
[-QueryType=QueryType QueryData] [ComputerToFind | [-Server]}]
Note that if you find the command line version of NSLookup a tad difficult to follow, you can find
an online version at http://www.
