"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

Append a period
to the name to view information for a computer not in the current DNS domain. Specifying an
IP address displays the name of the computer based on the DNS entry. Using a hyphen (-) in
place of the DNS name places the NSLookup utility in interactive mode.
TIP Some NSLookup commands can require an inordinate amount of time to complete due to distances
and machine configurations. Press Ctrl+B to interrupt any interactive command. To exit
interactive mode at any time, type Exit and press Enter.
The NSLookup utility relies on commands to perform various tasks. Consequently, it??™s important
to know which commands to use to perform diagnostics or query the DNS system for some
other purpose. The following list contains the NSLookup commands that Windows supports (which
aren??™t necessarily the same as the UNIX commands for the same utility??”see http://publib16
.boulder.ibm.com/pseries/en_US/cmds/aixcmds4/nslookup.htm for an example of an alternative
form of this utility).
Tracing Transmission Paths with the PathPing Utility
