Overcoming Documentation Errors
If you haven??™t run into a documentation error at some point in your career, consider yourself lucky.
You??™ll encounter documentation problems with the PathPing utility. Depending on where you go, you
might find what appear to be interesting additional command line switches, but in fact turn out to be
documentation errors. Like many Windows utilities, Microsoft has made changes and documented
some items inaccurately. The best place to go when you suspect a documentation error is the Microsoft
Knowledge Base. For example, you can find an update for this utility at http://support.microsoft
.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q244602.
It??™s important to realize that the documentation you??™re viewing might not always match the utility
you??™re using. For example, the Windows 2000 version of a utility often contains less functionality than
its Windows XP or Windows 2003 counterpart. However, in the case of the PathPing utility, the Windows
2000 version includes the -P, -R, and -T command line switches, which don??™t appear in later versions
of the utility. In addition, Microsoft often includes undocumented command line switches or
discontinues a command line switch without removing it from the documentation.
