When using this command line switch, PING queries the servers
in the path using the precise host list that you provide. The result is more accurate than a standard
path ping. However, using this technique also means that the utility will display an error
and exit immediately if one of the hosts isn??™t directly reachable. The maximum number of hosts
in the list is 9.
-w timeout Specifies the number of milliseconds to wait for each reply. The default setting is

-S srcaddr Specifies a source address to use so that you can test from a different client to the
specified target. You can only use this option with IPv6. The default source address is the current
machine.

uses IPv6.
MANIPULATING THE NETWORK ROUTING TABLES WITH THE ROUTE UTILITY 309
-6 Forces PING to use Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) calls, even when the system normally

systems still use IPv4 and will do so for several more years.
