You have a lot of other hardware installed on your system??”the computing world doesn??™t exist
solely of hard drives and network adapters. Chapter 12 discusses the somewhat paltry support that
Microsoft provides for other hardware on your system. Even though these offerings aren??™t as robust
as you might like, they do provide valuable services and you should try them out on your system.
Chapter 12
Managing Other Hardware
Previous chapters in this part have discussed a number of specific hardware issues, including the
hard drive, network, and its support (low-level) software such as TCP/IP. Of course, your computer
contains a lot more hardware. Even though the devices discussed in these previous chapters take
center stage, you must also consider the other hardware components that make up your server and
its connected devices. This chapter discusses the other devices, at least as far as Server Core provides
support for them.
Server Core doesn??™t actually provide support for every piece of hardware on your system. In
some cases, you??™ll need to obtain the support you need directly from the vendor or perhaps a third
party. In some cases, a creative administrator has used a third-party solution to meet a need and
found that it works after experimenting with it.
