Managing Applications
You can manage applications at a number of levels in Server Core. Of course, you can install or
remove user-level applications. The techniques for performing this task appear in the ???Performing
Application Installations??? section of Chapter 3. This chapter looks at another level of application
management. In this case, you??™ll discover the utilities that Microsoft provides for managing applications
at the operating system level. Consequently, this chapter doesn??™t discuss user-level issues
such as getting an editor to work. Instead of editors, you??™ll work with drivers, Component Object
Model (COM) servers, and other low-level utilities.
Microsoft has changed how you work with operating system features in Server Core. It has actually
divided the features that you can install into roles and features.
