"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

In fact, you may be surprised at the number
of ways in which you can interact with files because some of these techniques aren??™t available in the
graphical interface. For example, you won??™t find a counterpart to the Sort utility in the graphical
environment.
Of course, managing files also means working with them directly. This chapter shows you how
to perform tasks such as compressing and expanding files, as well as outputting files to a device.
You can also control how much of the file the server displays at the command line. All of these utilities
make it easier to perform work with the files without actually installing any applications that
may not work with Server Core.
One of the most interesting features that Server Core provides is full access to the Open Database
Connectivity (ODBC) functionality. ODBC makes it possible to create a connection to a database,
should an application on your server need it. Normally, administrators perform this administration
using the Data Sources (ODBC) console found in the Administrative Tools folder of the
Control Panel, but you??™ll find the command line alternative is quite capable as well.
