The command
must appear as it would at the local command prompt. You may use any command that the
remote system can execute at the command prompt.
432 CHAPTER 17 CREATING SYSTEM CONNECTIONS
TIP If you find that the remote command has stalled and you need to terminate it, press Ctrl+C
or Ctrl+Break. As with the local system, pressing these key combinations will terminate the
command.
Managing FTP Servers with the FTP Utility
The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) utility is one of the easiest ways of transferring files to literally any
system. FTP is a standardized protocol that just about every operating system platform supports.
In addition, FTP appears in more forms than just about any other protocol. For example, you can
use FTP from Internet Explorer or Firefox with equal ease. However, the FTP utility lets you perform
file transfers at the command prompt, so you can use it even if the host system isn??™t operating
quite right. This utility uses the following syntax:
FTP [-v] [-n] [-i] [-d] [-g] [-s:
] [-a] [-w:]
[-x:sendbuffer] [-r:recvbuffer] [-b:asyncbuffers] [-A] [-?]
[]
FTP uses case-sensitive switches.
