"Administering Windows Server 2008 Server Core"

Unloading a driver removes
all its entries from the registry.
Managing Windows in a New Way
Server Core provides a number of helpful monitoring tools. These tools help you perform basic
monitoring tasks on any server. For example, creating, reading, and acting on event log entries
should be part of the daily tasks you perform when working with the server. You should also regularly
monitor your server for performance issues that could represent any of a number of problems,
including outside intrusions. Of course, these tools are basic. As the complexity of your server
increases, you need to consider getting third-party tools to augment the tools that Server Core provides.
This chapter helps you build these skills:
? Document system status information
? Create, delete, and view events
? Create, delete, and view event triggers
? Record and manage system performance information
? Work with performance logs
? Work with performance counters
Practice is the only way to learn how to use these tools. Start simple by monitoring the event logs
and checking the performance of your system. As your skill increases, move on to creating your
own event logs and loading custom performance counters.
