The utility displays detail-specific settings that have
a precedence of 1 or higher. Using this command line switch lets you see whether a setting is set
in multiple places.
TIP Much of the Microsoft documentation leads you to believe that this utility is useless without having
Active Directory installed. However, even without Active Directory, you can discover security
information about a user with this utility. For example, you can verify that the system views the workstation
as stand-alone, check the user??™s group participation, and verify local policies for the user.
Managing Group Policies with the GPUpdate Utility
The Group Policy Update (GPUpdate) utility lets you update the group policies on a computer. Use
this utility as a replacement for the now obsolete /refreshpolicy command line switch for the
OBTAINING SESSION STATUS INFORMATION WITH THE QUERY UTILITY 497
SecEdit utility. Using this utility ensures that essential group policy changes appear on a computer,
especially systems that are on 24 hours per day. This utility uses the following syntax:
GPUpdate [/Target:{Computer | User}] [/Force] [/Wait:

[/Logoff] [/Boot] [/Sync]
