For example, many people feel that the XCopy utility works fine, but they??™d like it to have
some additional flexibility so they could use it as a quick backup application. This chapter contains
descriptions of some of the third-party tools that you can use to answer these needs. These command
prompt enhancers provide you with the added functionality you need to perform some
advanced tasks.
In this chapter, you??™ll learn how to do the following:
?
Use XVI32 to view files in depth
?
Move data with Send To Toys
?
Check file integrity using FCIV
?
Get the better XCopy with XXCopy
?
Work with shell extensions using ShellExView
?
Examine processes using Process Explorer
Using XVI32 to View Files in Depth
You won??™t work at the command line for very long before you discover a need to look inside files.
For example, you might need to check a file to determine whether it really is a graphic image or an
executable in disguise. You need to perform this check without executing the file and viewing the
image with a graphics application might not tell you what you want to know. What you really need
is a program that works along the same lines as the Debug utility described in the ???Examining,
Modifying, and Debugging Files with the Debug Utility??? section of Chapter 5, but with a better
interface.
