don??™t see a pattern because the operating system constantly changes the content of memory in response
to application requests. An application request could result in the operating system storing some data
in the paging file and moving other data into memory from the paging file.

A visit to the Web page shows a list of related tools that you might want to explore, along with a
list of Microsoft Knowledge Base articles that relate to Process Explorer and its use.
Process Explorer is ready to use when you extract it from the ZIP drive. In fact, this very simple
utility includes the application, help file, and license file. The main window shows a hierarchical
display of the executables running on your system, as shown in Figure 22.7.

In most cases, the software that supposedly tests memory from within Windows does a very poor job
and many administrators resorted to maintaining a DOS boot partition on disk or using boot disks to test
memory using a DOS-based utility in the past.
