MANAGING WINDOWS IN A NEW WAY 533
The hierarchical display shows the relationships between executables so you have a better idea
of how the executable is loaded and started. Figure 22.7 shows only part of what you can expect
from this utility. You??™ll find a wealth of options on the View menu to display yet more information.
The Process menu contains options for managing processes, such as changing their priority or killing
them when needed. The Find menu helps you locate a particular executable on the list.
When you double-click an entry, you see a properties dialog box like the one shown in
Figure 22.8. This dialog box tells you everything the system knows about the process. In fact, when
you choose the Threads tab, you??™ll likely see a dialog box telling you that you can obtain more information
about the process by installing the Windows debug server. The point is that you can drill
down into the innermost secrets of virtually any process using Process Explorer, but those with less
experience may find the amount of information overwhelming.

to learn the innermost
details of the processes
running on your
system.
