1. The interface includes a menu with predefined commands. To
use a particular command, select it from the menu. In addition, you can type commands directly in
the Type Command to Execute field that appears directly below the menus.
Microsoft is heavily promoting Server Manager as one of the best ways to manage your server, but it
doesn??™t come with Server Core and you can??™t use it within Server Core even if you install it. Using Server
Manager directly on your workstation won??™t work either. Of course, you could always go to the system
that has Windows Server 2008 Full Version installed on it, assuming that you have this operating system
installed. Unfortunately, using one server to manage another isn??™t very practical. The best solution
is to download the Windows Server 2008 Resource Kit, which will have a copy of Server Manager that
you can use on your client machine.
Once you install the Resource Kit version of Server Manager on your workstation, you??™ll have another
option for remote management of Server Core. Server Manager still can??™t answer every need, however.
You still need to perform the initial setups for Server Core as described in this book.
