Unfortunately, the remote administration service that handles HTTP remote
administration and delegated administration relies on the .NET Framework. In addition, IIS 7
won??™t allow you to use the IIS 6 administration utilities found in products such as Windows XP.
Consequently, you can??™t perform remote administration tasks using the standard methods you
may have used in the past. Fortunately, you can modify the CONFIG files that IIS 7 relies on
from a remote location. You??™ll find a discussion of these and other administration topics in
Chapter 25.
Performing a Standard Installation
A standard installation provides you with basic functionality that you can use to build a Web site.
The result isn??™t a complete Web site, but you can access the resulting Web site and begin using it to
create something usable. Of course, you??™ll want to verify any IIS components that you already have
installed on the system using OCList. The entry that you want to find is IIS-WebServerRole and it
should say Not Installed. Once you verify that you haven??™t installed the IIS Web Server role, you
can use the following steps to install it.
1.
Type
PkgMgr /IU:IIS-WebServerRole;WAS-WindowsActivationService;WAS-ProcessModel
and press Enter to perform a default installation.
