Verify the W3Svc is running by typing
SC Query W3Svc
and pressing Enter. You should also
verify that the system has set the W3Svc to start automatically by typing
SC QC W3Svc
and
press Enter. The service queries should appear as shown in Figure 24.2. Notice that STATE
property is set to RUNNING and the START_TYPE property is set to AUTO_START.

Open an entry in the firewall to ensure that you can contact the server by typing
NetSH
AdvFirewall Firewall Set Rule Group=???World Wide Web Services (HTTP)??? New
Enable=Yes
and pressing Enter. The NetSH utility should tell you that it has updated
the rule.

Verify the status of the firewall rule by typing
NetSH AdvFirewall Firewall Show Rule

and pressing Enter. You??™ll see
output similar to that shown in Figure 24.3. Notice that the Enabled property is set to Yes
and that the Action property is set to Allow. Now that you have everything set up, it??™s time
to test the Web site from a client.
