Diamond Directive File (DDF)
Similar to an INF (information) or BAT (batch) file,
the DDF provides instructions to a CAB (cabinet)
creation utility such as DIANTZ for compressing
one or more files into a single storage file. CAB files
are normally used to distribute data locally, using a
CD or other similar type of media, or remotely,
through an Internet or other server connection.
The DDF can also list files needed for a complete

installation, but stored in other locations. Normally,
these missing files already appear on the user??™s computer,
so downloading them again would waste
time. The DDF makes it possible to download them
only as needed.
Directory
A logical unit of storage for most forms of media.
Directories provide a means of separating files
into different locations based on type or use. Using
directories makes it easier to locate data and use
applications.
Directory Information Tree (DIT)
All or part of the Active Directory database. A Directory
Service Agent (DSA) can contain all or part of
the Active Directory database. Each DSA has its own
DIT. All of the DSA database pieces, when combined,
form all of the data for Active Directory for a particular
domain, but an individual DSA may contain
only part of the database.
