Internet Information Server (IIS)
Microsoft??™s Web server that runs under the Windows
operating system. IIS includes all of the standard
Web server features including File Transfer Protocol
(FTP) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), along
with both mail and news services in older versions
of the product. The latest version of IIS concentrates
on developer requirements and doesn??™t provide
mail and news services.
Internet Packet Exchange (IPX)
A peer-to-peer communication protocol based on
the Internet Protocol (IP) portion of the TCP/IP pair.
IPX is a security datagram protocol used for connectionless
communication. It offers superior functionality
to IP, but never became popular because it??™s a
proprietary Novell technology.
Inter-Packet Gap (IPG)
The distance, measured in milliseconds, between
packets on a TCP/IP network.
