500, LDAP provides support for TCP/IP, a
requirement for Internet communication. LDAP
makes it possible for a client to request directory
information like email addresses and public keys
from any server. In addition, since LDAP is an open
protocol, applications need not worry about the type
of server used to host the directory.
Line Printer Daemon (LPD)
A special application that provides printing services.
Line Printer Queue (LPQ)
A special application that provides spooling services
for print jobs sent from a client to a print service. The
application normally places the print job on a local
hard drive until the printer can output it.
Line Printer Remote (LPR)
The client-side software used to make requests of a
remote print server using TCP/IP as the protocol.
The LPR protocol normally appears as part of a
UNIX setup, but also appears on operating systems
such as Windows.
