Developers can use TAPI to
create communication applications or applications
that use communications to provide services such as
help. The TAPI service provides functionality for
dial-up services such as modems and faxes. Windows
also uses it for networking services such as
Internet connectivity no matter what form the connectivity
takes (dial-up, broadband, digital subscriber
line, and so on).
Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR)
A special device that detects and analyzes cabling
problems by sending a signal through the cable and
measuring the return signal. Unlike a resistance
check, a TDR can measure partial breaks, stress fractures,
and other conditions that a technician can??™t see
using visual inspection.
Time-to-Live (TTL)
An Internet Protocol (IP) packet entry that controls
the lifetime of the packet. The router forwards the
datagram when the TTL in the IP header is greater
638 GLOSSARY
than the TTL threshold for the interface. This value
limits the distances that packets can travel.
Token
The representation of data, an object, database element,
programming syntax, or other information
using a code word, phrase, number, or object.
