The actual default filename depends on the
Web server used. In some cases, the default filename
is configurable and could be any of a number of files.
For example, Internet Information Server (IIS) offers
this feature, so the developer can use anything from
an HTM, to an ASP, to an XML file as the default.
Universal Naming Convention (UNC)
A method for identifying network resources
without specifying a local resource such as a drive
letter. In most cases, a user will employ this convention
with drives and printers, but the user can also
apply it to other types of resources. A UNC normally

includes a server name followed by a device name in
place of a locale identifier. For example, a user might
refer to a disk drive on a remote machine as ???\\AUX\
DRIVE_C.??? The advantage of using UNC is that the
resource name won??™t change, even if the user??™s local
device mappings do.
Universally Unique Identifier (UUID)
Another name for a Globally Unique Identifier
(GUID). The two terms are interchangeable. The
UUID is part of the Distributed Computing Environment
(DCE) standardized by the Open Software
Foundation (OSF), while Microsoft created the
GUID acronym.
