2. Drag the layer to the Create A New Layer icon to create a duplicate layer. Alternatively,
you can choose Layer | Duplicate Layer or press CTRL+J (Windows) or COMMAND+J
(Macintosh).
3. Double-click the default layer name, and type a new name for the layer. Naming layers
is a good work habit when you??™re creating several layers to enhance an image.

Choose Layer Blend Modes
and Varying Opacity
You control the effect one layer has upon the underlying layer by choosing the
desired blend mode. Photoshop Elements has a large variety of blend modes.
Unfortunately, a detailed discussion of them is beyond the scope of this book.
The following list describes a few modes commonly used when working with
digital images:
??? Normal is the default blending mode that displays the pixels on the layer in their
original form without blending pixels from the underlying layer.
TIP
You can change the order in which layers are stacked
by dragging a selected layer above or below its current
position. You cannot move the background layer until you
unlock it by double-clicking the lock icon.
