This prevents
a hard edge from occurring around the selection,
which is ideal when you??™re using a layer to
segregate a special effect, such as a vignette.
7. Enter the desired value in the Feather Radius
field. This value is in pixels, and determines how
many pixels beyond the selection will be used for
the feather. The amount you enter depends on
the size of the image to which you??™re applying the
effect. If you??™re creating a vignette around a large
image, experiment with values 100 pixels or larger.
8. Click OK to apply the feather and close the
dialog box.
9. Choose Select | Inverse. This selects the area
where the vignette will be applied.
10. Choose Edit | Fill Selection to open the Fill Layer
dialog box.
11. Click the Use down arrow, and click Black.
12. Click OK to apply the fill.

4. Size the brush. Press the right bracket ( ] ) key to increase the size of the brush; press
the left bracket key ( [ ) to decrease the size of the brush.
