Rescue Underexposed
or Washed-Out Photos
If you have some dark, underexposed photos, you may be able to save them
using the Shadows/Highlights command discussed in Chapter 7. You may
also have some washed-out photos where the sky is too light. Don??™t
discard these photos; you may be able to rescue them using layers
and blending modes.
Rescue Washed-Out Images
1. Open an image that??™s overexposed or washed-out.
2. Open the Layers palette.
3. Select the background layer, and drag it to the Create A New Layer icon.
4. Select the new layer.
5. Change to the Multiply blending mode. This will give the image better
contrast and detail.
6. If the image is now underexposed, lower the opacity of the layer.
